As a CTST volunteer driver, former teacher, Tracy Siedler, can see the difference she makes to people’s daily lives.
Tracy joined us in June this year after seeing the positive impact it had on her father who was a regular consumer of our social outings program (aimed at reducing social isolation).
“Dad used to go on the Out and About trips, and it was one of the highlights of his week,” Tracy said.
“He had macular degeneration and losing his licence was a big adjustment for him, but he loved going out on the bus.
“I retired this year and wanted to do some volunteering, so I thought I would try this out. A friend of mine had also just started volunteering with CTST and he encouraged me to join too. I was really impressed with the preparation and training that CTST offered and how friendly all the office staff are.”
Tracy chooses to volunteer half a day each week and drives short trips taking consumers to medical appointments and other daily activities.
"I really enjoy talking to people and hearing their stories. I especially like listening to older people as they know so much about local history, gardening or travel, and they are usually very keen to chat. The clients are also so appreciative of the service, and you can see what a difference it makes to them and their daily lives, so that makes you feel good."
For Tracy, there is a strong sense of pride in being a CTST volunteer.
“Now that I am volunteering, I see the CTST cars on the road all the time and it feels good to be part of the organisation.”
We're grateful to have Tracy volunteer with us.
